WHAT IS CREATING A PATH?
Creating A Path (CAP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding career exploration opportunities for Black and Hispanic/Latino students on Long Island while welcoming all students who can benefit from our programs.
We introduce students to a wide range of careers by connecting them with Black and Hispanic/Latino professionals across diverse industries while providing the career-readiness resources, guidance, and support needed to pursue those opportunities—helping students discover possibilities they may have never known existed and envision themselves in those spaces.

OUR ORIGIN STORY
Why we exist
Growing up, Gabrielle Wongbe wanted to be an astronomer. Then a fashion designer. Then a chef. She finally landed on law, politics, who knows — but even now, she still wonders what else is out there.
Growing up on Long Island — one of the most segregated suburbs in America — she watched neighboring communities have completely different access to opportunities. Not because of talent, but because of who they knew and where they lived.
That gap stuck with her. So in high school, she founded Creating A Path with a simple idea: connect students to professionals who look like them, and the confidence to pursue paths they never had access to follow.
Now a student at Barnard College studying political science on a pre-law track, Gabrielle still leads CAP — because she believes opportunity should never be determined by zip code.
